Guest Post: 3 Tiers of Support You Need for Success

By Joanna Lindenbaum, Founder of Soulful Coaching for Busy Women. Her complete bio proceeds the article.

As a busy woman, sometimes it’s hard to remember that every once in a while you need help! Rome wasn’t built in a day and you can’t take on the world by yourself – you need a team of supportive people to help you. Here are some basic steps to help you identify the different types of support you need in order to take on your soul-centered project!

Take a minute and write down your top three fears, doubts, and concerns. Some of your
fears could be abolished if you just had a little outside help, right? The trick lies in delegating
responsibility within your 3-tier support system. What’s a 3-tier support system? They are the
levels of support that you need to conquer your soul-centered project and really succeed.
A great leader knows that to accomplish your goals, you need others to help you. By asking for
help, you don’t just achieve your goals, you achieve them more quickly and easily and you avoid
exhaustion and being overwhelmed. Sounds pretty simple, right? It is. There are three different
types of support that you need: support on tasks, creative support, and emotional support.

Tier 1: Basic Task Support
The first tier includes those people you can delegate tedious, everyday tasks to. In a sense, it may
seem like need a personal assistant but these tasks are the one that annoy you, distract you,
or take up too much of your time like cleaning your home, scheduling your clients, doing your
accounting…etc. You get the idea. You don’t need a ton of people in this tier, but take a moment and make a list of your daily tasks. Think of the tasks you don’t want to do or don’t have time for and pair them up with people who could potentially fill those roles. Fulfilling this tier is as simple as making a phone call.

Tier 2: Intellectual/Creative Support
In the second tier, you need people to brainstorm.....
or provide you with new ideas or resources
like colleagues, mentors, friends, coaches, and teachers, because coming up with ideas and
solutions for your business or goal is a huge task! There are a lot of opportunities to learn and
move forward when you seek this tier of support. Make another list but place people you respect and believe could help you with the intellectual and creative parts of your project. These are people from whom you’ll enjoy receiving their wisdom, plus they might be flattered at having been chosen to share them with you!

Tier 3: Emotional and Spiritual Support
The third tier is often the most overlooked group, but they are the true backbone to your
success and your sense of connection and joy in the world. We each need our own group of
cheerleaders because we need people to keep us going and believe in us – especially when we
don’t believe in ourselves. Those moments do happen and you need people like husbands, wives,
sisters, parents, childhood friends, clergy members, coaches, and therapists to cheer you on and
support you. You should already know who to count on in this area! Just remember that you
can’t do this alone.

When you have these three areas of support in your life covered, you are setting yourself
up for maximum success!

Tracy, this is a great post. Joanna has given very simple ideas that can be applied to any part of our lives. Simple, but so helpful. I remember reading from Tamara Monosoff's book that Julie Clark (Baby Einstein founder) hired housekeeping help a couple hours per week. Thanks for having Joanna guest post. Enjoy your week!

Thanks for all the comments ladies. Dayna, I am sure many of us feel like that. It's really helpful to have a great support system...some comes in the form of family and friends, but much can come in the form of "strangers" online...motivational coaches like Joanna, or blogging communities. I've quickly learned there is much support to be shared if we can just find it.

Great post--I love how you break it down. For someone like me, who thinks I have to do it 'on my own', this is vital info and encouragement to let some of it go. Stopping by from vB.

I especially appreciated your comment '...to accomplish your goals, you need others to help.' Such a true statement. Plus others make the accomplishments so much more fun!

Great post! That second tier is the hardest one, in my opinion. Because even if I list people I respect on that list, it takes a whole lotta courage to ask for their help. But then again, if I don't ask, I won't get it, right?

I am very encouraged by your post. I really needed this reminder. I am a new mom (first time mom) and work outside of the home - everything for me has been quite an adjustment. At 40 years of age, I am pretty set in my ways. I have been achievement driven all my life and was never great as asking for, or accepting, help. I seriously need to change my ways. :) Thank you for sharing this. :) Cynthia Mommied Life by Cynthia, visiting from vB MTR

Wow, this was a really great and informative post. For me, having a special group of Christian friends goes a long way in keeping me grounded. It's comforting to know I have prayer warriors to intercede for me when I need it most.

Sounds like a great list of support people. I think the most that I can rely on is the emotional support. It's hard to find anyone else to do the tedious things! Thanks for the list. Stopping in from voiceBoks.com Members to remember!
