Do you have lots of gently used stuffed animals packed away? Maybe they're overflowing a closet, or stuffed into a plastic garbage bag? Ever wonder where to donate them? I found this great program called
The Teddy Bear Brigade, which donates new and gently used teddy bears to children in need throughout the world. I recently donated a box to them. I chose this particular program because they focus on teddy bears. They don't sell them off and use the proceeds to pay their administrative costs. Your gently used stuffed animal will actually go to a child in need. Take a look at their website, their parent organization
Gleaning for the World, and their "charity report card" on a website such as
Charity Navigator, and decide if you would like to help. I had my kids hand pick stuffed animals to donate, and discussed with them how many children in the world have NO stuffed animals. For each one they chose, I asked them if they feel good that they will make another child very happy by giving him/her their first stuffed animal. What a great learning experience for them!

I love hearing about non-profits like this, especially when you can get your children involved in picking out an old toy to donate. I also use Charity Navigator to look about charitable organizations before I support them.
